Ogio Ramp Contest WinnerSLUG Mag's Sixth annual Summer of Death Contest Series: Date one By Mike Brown

Dude, we totally threw a contest! On June 24th SLUG Magazine, a Regional, independent music rag in Salt Lake City, hosted the first 2006 date in the Summer of Death contest series. SOD has been going-off for six years now, and in my humble opinion, this was by far one of the deadliest jams ever with the best body count.

Held inside Ogio's private skatepark, this mini ramp contest did not feel like a contest at all, but more like a big jam session with a bunch of good buddies. Good buddies are much better to skate with than little buddies, (little buddies are the little guys I refer to that get in your way at skateparks and turn them into liability factories). It was so non-contest I almost forgot who even won because it didn't feel like it even mattered. It was some dude from San Diego (Matt Kriegel) that took first and tUtah natives Jordan Williams and Christian Sevelke took second and third. Another cool thing was the fact that the judges were Lizard King, Adam Dyet, and DJ Chavez. Other notable heroes that came for the session were Mark White, David Amador and Jared Smith. Binary Brock called out the tricks and maintained the mike over The Lizard King's Ipod.

Bob Plumb took some ripping pictures from the event. Free Hotdogs and Burgers were grilled up by Pouch from Ogio and there were swag booths by Union Board Shop, Ghetto Slider Clothing, Think! Skateboards, Dekline, Quiksilver and of course SLUG Mag. Special thanks to Freddy from THINK! who flew out for the event. Anyway, fun was had by all and it was a good turn out and shit like that. Stay Tuned for the next SOD date August 14, at a secret location! For pics and other random SOD stuff peep summerofdeath.com
