Natty Light and SLUG Magazine’s Kick Flip the Economy presented by C1RCA and FuelTV announces Winners of the 2009 Summer of Death Skateboard Comp

SALT LAKE CITY, June 24, 2009 – SLUG Magazine’s 10th Annual Summer of Death Skate Serieskicked off on Saturday, June 20!  It was a rainy and soggy afternoon for skateboarding, let alone a skateboard competition.  Thanks to you, all of our amazing sponsors, skaters and spectators, SLUG Magazine pulled off a legendary day of skateboarding.  Raindrops fell faster than the declining stock market, which made it an appropriate setting to host this comp.

The clouds split apart for the 17 and under division with Tyson Bowerbank taking first place! Daniel Roman came in second with Patrick Brewer settled in at third place.

For the Men’s Open Matt Fisher’s shred stock skyrocketed him to first place! Andy Leyba cashed in his silver for second, and Kevin Fedderson third place.

The winners of each division received a $100 cash prize, C1rca Shoes, a Yudu screen-print machine, XMission web service and various other cool items from our sponsors.

Best Trick went to Brodie Penrod for sticking a back smith kickflip and a front smith big-spin.  Chase Strickwerda left part of his face in the parking lot for the Best Slam. Prizes were hand painted decks by SLUG Illustrator, Manuel Aguilar.

Yudu was on hand screen-printing Summer of Death t-shirts for everyone in attendance.  Fresh Boardshop was grilling complimentary veggie burgers and dogs for the crowd.  Natty’s were flowing strong next door in the Natty Light Lounge at Burt’s.  Este provided endless pizza for the rain-drenched audience.

“It was as Thrasher and Skate or Die as you could possibly imagine,” said C1rca Rep, Medredith Hanrahan.  She summed up the day with the following equation, “Iron Maiden + Skating in pouring rain + couple of rad sponsors + one really bloody kid = SUMMER OF DEATH!”

SLUG Magazine would like to thank all of our sponsors for making this event a success!  Natty Light, C1rca, FuelTV, Yudu, XMission, Odeus, Kr3w, Fiber Skateboards, Sevenfold, Board Bunnies, Borosyndicate, Blindside, Board of Provo, Milo, Salty Peaks, Lenitech, Uprok, Este Pizza, Sponsor Me, Fresh and Typical Culture.
